Welcome back and a big thank you to Mr. Mark Arpag who joined us again for the weekend in April to host a full-day bonsai workshop on Saturday and half day workshop Sunday at DJH Bonsai in Feura Bush, NY.
Members who signed up got an entire day session with Mark on Saturday and he can really move so a lot of tree work got done and fun was had by all.
Sunday morning saw another half day workshop led by Mr. Arpag and preparation of the demo tree for the afternoon.
After a club meeting led by our president, Bill Papura, club members and some new friends enjoyed a demonstration on a particularly challenging multiple trunk specimen.
Mr. Arpag first led a brief discussion on pot selection for a member’s tree that she had styled with him. He also discussed two beautiful bonsai he’d brought with him and set up in the DJH tokonoma.
The demonstration included help from our own David Hodgetts of DJH Bonsai and our activities director, Jon Stewart with both prepping the tree, a quick repot, and styling. The result was a wonderfully styled multi-trunk tree with some jin which should develop and fill in nicely over the next growing season or two. Congratulations to Jon who ended up as the lucky owner after the raffle winner, Sue, gifted it to him. Thank you for your generosity!
