The MHBS welcomed visiting artist Young Choe in June.
Ms. Choe hosted two half day member workshops on Saturday, both of which were very popular and productive.
Young gave tips, teaching, and doses of humor in between working with each of the workshop registrants. She spoke about types of plants selected for kusamono, soil, moss, and plant care. A special thank you to Dave and Lori Hodgetts and DJH Bonsai for hosting and to Tom and Sandy Kiszkiel for providing material and kind, experienced help as well!
Photos from the workshops are below.
The kusamono education continued on Sunday following our club meeting. Ms. Choe gave a wonderful presentation going much more in depth into types of plants for kusamono, arrangements, and even coordinating plants with seasons. She also spoke about elements of display and went over multiple photos from a variety of shows pointing out both areas of strength and what could be improved.
It was very educational for all in attendance!

Following the presentation attendees were treated to a demonstration of Ms. Choe assembling several kusamono. Two finished pieces were then raffled, and won by Brandon Herwick and Tara Papura (Tara graciously gifted her planting to Julian Shepersky).

Thank you, Young, for a wonderful weekend of learning and fun! We hope to see you back soon.
