MHBS welcomed Mark Arpag to the Capital Region for the weekend of July 29th and 30th. Many thanks to Mark for providing his expertise on cedar and design of other trees and for some great stories!
On Saturday, some members brought their own material for one-on-one workshop time with Mark in styling and design.

On Sunday, there was enthusiastic turnout for Mr. Arpag’s demonstration, including several new faces whom MHBS is excited to welcome.

After the club meeting, Mr. Arpag presented his thoughts on a very unique clump cedar collected and generously provided by Kris Springer (Black Dodge Bonsai), who also joined us and had some stock for sale. Thank you Kris for the demo tree and some laughs along the way!
There were some member trees, including several cedars, on display and from the previous day’s workshop which Mr. Arpag gave commentary on. Thank you to all the members who brought trees!
Mr. Arpag worked diligently for several hours while giving tips, highlighting some other trees (including several member cedars), and having a great time with all.

The result was an amazing clump juniper with the feeling of a meandering path through an island forest – congratulations to David Hodgetts who won the tree at the club raffle! (see below for before and after)

Thank you to Kris Springer/Black Dodge Bonsai for the tree, DJH Bonsai LLC for hosting, club members for their support, and Mr. Mark Arpag for the wonderful and entertaining demonstration!
See you all in August…..check the calendar on the events page for upcoming meetings and events including the MHBS Club Show Oct 7-8 at The Albany Center Gallery.
