Reminder to join us for our tree “In Memoriam” this Sunday, August 30 following our club meeting at noon at DJH Bonsai in Feura Bush, NY. Bring a tree to work on as well! Further details in the TWIG newsletter or on our homepage.
The MHBS thanks our friend and visiting artist Mark Arpag for joining us in late July for two days of workshops and a demonstration on a very challenging tree on Sunday afternoon!
Club members got to work on their trees with Mark on Saturday all day and Sunday morning and benefit from his experience and guidance.

Before his demonstration on Sunday afternoon, Mr. Arpag was kind enough to bring several of his own trees and setup displays around the DJH studio. He went through each and described the tree and it’s journey with multiple different types and styles of junipers and fascinating pots.

He then went on to tackle a challenging dual trunk needle juniper with both an awkard curve and a cascade like branch. After some pruning and consideration though, Mark found a great angle to help harmonize the trunks and give the tree a great initial styling. Congratulations to David Hodgetts, who is the lucky raffle winner for the demo tree……it is sure to thrive in it’s new home at DJH Bonsai.

Mr. Arpag also generously donated an ezo spruce planting on an unusal round slab to the club for silent auction to benefit The MHBS…..thank you so much Mark and congratulations to Patricia, the lucky high bidder!

Chris Springer of Black Dodge Bonsai was also on hand with great bonsai stock and collected trees. It was great to see him and have him back as well!
We hope to see you at a future meeting/event. Until then…..Happy Bonsai’ing!
