Upcoming MHBS Events

oChristmasBonsaiOur trees may be coming indoors, but the work continues. On November 19, David Hodgetts will offer instruction on junipers, so be sure to bring your trees to the MHBS club meeting at pfm bonsai in West Charlton. Guests are welcome to observe. Upcoming bonsai events

MARK-ARPAGEastern White Cedars will be the featured tree on Saturday, July 29, when Mohawk Hudson Bonsai welcomes back Mark Arpag for a bring-your-own workshop. Little space remains so register soon and take your Eastern White Cedars to the next level. On Sunday, July 30, Mark will return for a demo following the monthly MHBS club meeting at pfm bonsai. If poetry doesn’t bend your twig, The Mohawk Hudson Bonsai Society has plenty to keep your fingers warm until spring, including:

FEB 26 at 12:00 noon – Cotoneaster with Pauline Muth
Learn how to use this versatile species for bonsai and, if you wish, participate in a shohin sized cotoneaster thymifolia workshop after the lesson. The cost of the material is $45. Please call or email Pauline to reserve a place and bring tools and wire. Club members, bring something to share for lunch at noon. At pfm bonsai, 7 Western Avenue, West Charlton, NY.

MARCH 25 – Collected larch and cedar
Kris Springer, well-known for his superior collected material, will bring larch and eastern white cedars to sell on this Saturday. At pfm bonsai, 7 Western Avenue, West Charlton, NY.

MARCH 26 – Learning larch
Colin Lewis and Maliea Chiem will consult on larch. Get ready for spring potting, larch give you a slim window. At pfm bonsai, 7 Western Avenue, West Charlton, NY.

Download the May TWIG newsletter to catch up on summer activities with the Mohawk Hudson Bonsai Society, including a can’t miss weekend, May 21-22, with truckloads of bonsai stock from Mark Comstock and design assistance from bonsai master Jim Doyle of Nature’s Way Nursery. Jim will work with you and your trees on one or both days for a $50 fee, so register now.

Need new trees? Who doesn’t? Mark Comstock’s truck brings plenty of good new material and it’s first come, first served, so arrive early (but not before me). Club members may also bring trees, pots or whatever to sell. You never know when you’ll find the perfect pot.

This special weekend event is open to all, club members and curious newcomers alike, at pfm Bonsai in West Charlton, NY, May 21-22 from 9am to 5pm.
